Dr. Jeffrey Friedman and Dr. Douglas Coleman SPEFICALLY said the above statement.
Fat tissue is metabolically active and an endocrine organ. It is aggressively defended by the body involuntarily against losses. There are all sorts of tricks your body has.
We have VERY LIMITED ability to affect our body weight, ESPECIALLY over the LONG TERM- which is what really counts.
There are MANY obese and overweight people who live EXCEPTIONALLY good lifestyles - exercising regularly and eating nutrient dense reasonable portions- YET REMAIN SIGNIFICANTLY FAT.
The CRAP that the scamming , multi- billion dollar commercial weight loss industry such as " Weight Watchers etc." recommends IS NOT SUPPORTED BY SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE:
I have controlled my body weight by eating a low fat vegan diet, no sugar, no dessert, as little processed food as possible, portion control and exercise - it is a sure way for anyone to lose weight: Eat less calories than you burn, exercise - you will always lose weight. some people will lose more quickly than others, but the weight will come off. Thank goodness for the IGNOR feature!

The article you linked doesn't really say what you want it to say. You can lose fat, it's just harder for some people. This is nothing new. Nor is setpoint theory.

No , it does not say what YOU want it to say.
I AM IN CONTACT WITH DR. FRIEDMAN ( as well as Dr. Liebel, Dr. Rosenbaum and Dr. Steophan Guyenet). WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE. And you're telling ME ????????
Why would I not like what it says? It doesn't say anything I don't already know and have accepted. Accepting that it would be harder for me to lose weight and that my body would fight me every step of the way has led me to have a much healthier relationship with food and with my body.
You're taking a very broad point and running with it to the point that it becomes a lie.
Emailing someone once does not mean you are 'in contact' with them, fyi.
