Yuck (broken link)
Snippet:
The high-fat Atkins diet can cause long-term damage to blood vessels, as well as some of the inflammation linked with heart and artery disease, U.S. researchers reported on Tuesday.

In contrast, low-fat regimens such as the South Beach and Ornish diets lowered cholesterol and appeared to benefit artery function, they said.

Well, this is just one more reason to avoid high fat, though I can't resist having a little bit of it every now and then.

Thanks for the info- I recall seeing former Pres. Clinton saying he was on the Atkins diet (alot of red meat) and then he had that heart condition/operation....

Unless I am mistaken, Atkins was overweight when he died of a heart attack. That's the kind of person I want to take advice from.

Jack Lalanne said eat raw foods, food in their natural state and lean meats.

I'm switching to low-fat milk and cottage cheese and yogurt.

today i had:
- flax seed cereal with banana and milk
- coffee w/ half-n-half
- apple
- handful o' nuts
- spinach and brown rice patty from whole foods (very yummy)
- 7 ounces of hummus (ate the whole container)

and i might eat something else cuz i'm still hungry...

That's one of the problems with hummus..you start off using just a little, then it tastes so good, you just eat it all. Been there, done that.

I had a friend that went on the Atkin's diet. She sure looked good afterwards, but I couldn't tell about her heart since it was inside of her.

Although i'm not a high fat diet person ....looking closely at this study is a joke by those who did the study (not you cil). Only 6 people on Atkins and 6 on Ornish and also only for 4 weeks. How about 1,000's of peoples of a longer study say 3 months or 6 months as that is too small and short to say that truely represents a majority of Human Beings on this planet.

Both extremes are not for me as thrive on Salads for all 3 meals i.e. red cabbage, brocolli, red onion, carrot topped with tomato sauce with garlic and cayenne powders and frozen blueberries/green apples and chicken or lean beef with olive oil....

I know about that study (China Study) PinkString ........as it does have science behind it. But the OP mentioned this specific study with only 12 participants as that is small in any clinical food or drug study. Now regarding the ''China Study'' i still don't see the Chinese as the longest living peoples on earth like the Okinawans with fish and their omega-3 oils in their diets or like the Sardineans and Greeks (Mediterranean diet ) with moderate amounts of Olive Oil which is the diet i most prescribe too without the grains.

I really beleive that some thrive on high fats and others on low fats and others somewhere in between do to our DNA although simular and yet is different. An example is some can tolerate dairy like me as i love milk while others can't. Some can tolerate grains and others as myself suffer terribly when consuming any grains especially oats.

Its all interesting as i can't wait for these Food DNA Gene Chip tests that are coming out within 5 years as we''ll specifically know what foods work for OUR personal DNA...
