Just pointing out again that the OP is asking how to advise his sister and female coworkers about their weight. He never considered bringing it up to his previous girlfriend (no surprise), despite her being overweight.

As you mention you have worked as a personal trainer so you can discuss with her how people want to lose there weight and how you help them to maintain weight. Every woman know, she is overweight or not, they always take care about it but sometimes they are fail to maintain there proper weight. You just give her some tips with out pointing on her weight.

Sounds like the co-workers are fishing for compliments. The guy is suppose to say 'oh no honey, you don't need to lose weight, you look great just the way you are'. Completely a false statement, but if they are talking to him about eating and diet advice, they are setting a trap.

I'm overweight, but so is half my office. Seeing my own male supervisors struggle with losing weight and eating healthy despite a job that requires a lot of sitting, helps. Then again, we don't sugar coat here either because we all know what offends the other. I had a random person in the elevator once say to me 'you know, if you took the stairs you would lose weight'. That was overheard by a very skinny co-worker riding with me who pretty must read him the EEO riot act before he stepped off.

My own brother has been calling me fat since I was in high school and him giving me diet advice is at this point completely unwelcome at this point.

People who are overweight, like myself, know we're overweight/fat. I even mention I have to shop in the 'big momma' section. I'm a size 18. Not troll/narwhale fat, but I know it. I see how I look in photos, I'm aware. I would love to have more money to go purchase the foods I like and shop at Whole Foods all the time, but I have to make my budget stretch and with the cost of fruits and vegetables and 'healthy' food, it's honestly an upper class luxury. There is a reason those of us in the lower/lower-middle classes are fat.

Funny, I had ALL my weight gain when I was vegetarian and vegan. I tried Paleo/Primal and gain 15 lbs following Robb Wolf and Mark's Daily Apple's suggestions.
