If your purpose is weight loss or healthy nutrition then I recommend reading this sub forum over reading any book. Although there is a lot of conflicting information here I am pretty confident that the information given here is many times more helpful than you get in most diet books. You just have to learn to value the difference in opinions and put them in practice. I.e. only read my posts. (Just kidding).
In my opinion the conflicting information actually is a benefit of this forum because your ideas and believes about what is healthy and what not are challenged, as opposed to a book which goal is to sell you on one diet.
I think books are obsolete, given that you can get so much free information on the Internet. Just look up subject matter and go from there. Keep in mind, on both books and the Internet, some people are just trying to sell THEIR idea of what is right and it may be completely wrong. If it says Dr. Oz, run away. Fast! If it says lose weight fast, run! The running will add to your exercise. Thinking you can lose weight easily and fast is a huge mistake. It is anything but easy and fast. It is hard and slow. You have to sacrifice, make choices, do hard work, be consistent, and do it for the rest of your life to maintain the loss.
I've read dozens of diet and nutrition books in the past but want to start another one tonight on my kindle. Need some ideas, thanks in advance.
If you want a book about "healthy eating," I would recommend the new cookbook from Diabetic Living magazine. (Diabetic Living Diabetes Meals by the Plate: 90 Low-Carb Meals to Mix & Match). It contains nearly 300 recipes. It's become one of my favorite cookbooks.
Of course, you don't need to be diabetic to eat and cook like a diabetic. In fact, everyone would probably benefit from a diabetic diet since it teaches you to cut most of the sugar, fat, and salt from your diet without sacrificing flavor.
I went on a diabetic diet about 3 months ago. I have lost about 37 pounds so far, dropping about 4 to 5 pounds each week.
