Hello used to drink 2 glasses or so of wine per night every day. Stopped because that was like 50 dollars or more per week. Then I realized that will help reduce 400 or more calories per night. Anyone else lose weight by not drinking beer or wine ?

I stopped drinking 600+ calories of alcohol per night, and in the beginning, to compensate, I ate cakes and cookies instead. But after figuring out a good balance of caloric intake, I lost 25 lbs. in about 16 months.

It's not technically "losing weight by not drinking beer or wine." It's losing weight by cutting calories and not eating more than you burn daily.

So you are making a great decision, both for health, weight loss, and monetarily!

Thanks. Did you find wine increased your appetite ? Instead of wine I have a cup of green tea. I am having fewer snacks.

I am a wine lover and drink it pretty much every night. I am in the wine industry so I am surrounded by it. However when I notice my jeans getting tight I knock it off for a few weeks. The trick is to be able to balance calories and exercise so that glass of wine at night does not add on.
Over the holidays it seemed like there was no escaping parties and lots of wine. When I drink more than one glass I do not pay attention to how much I am eating and that is where the trouble is.

2oz scotch every night, 136 calories and I can easily stay under my 2,000 calorie limit - moderation is key

I stopped drinking a bit over two weeks ago, and my scale is a lot happier as a result. I was averaging 3 drinks a night, mixing it up with beer, wine and booze. Some of the specialty craft beers I'd been drinking had over 300 calories a bottle. Gaa!

I'm also counting calories and keeping my total intake under 2000 calories a day - this would not be possible if I was having 2-3 drinks a night.

If you wanna lose weight, cutting out the alcohol sure makes life much, much easier.

I stopped drinking 18 months ago, in addition to eliminating all animal products and added oils from my diet. Lost about 35 pounds, likely from a combination of all of that. I didn't increase exercise at all for the initial weight loss, but started running a lot once I lost about 30 lbs. Alcohol adds a ton of calories and can encourage you to lose willpower with regard to food. It's also expensive.

Yes, wine increased my appetite. For men. And food. And general debauchery. I despise tea. Diet soda became by go-to.
