She wants to increase my metabolic rate and she feels that the drug will do that temporarily.
If your doctor wanted to increase your metabolic rate and caloric intake at the same time, she should have given you liothyronine sodium (the thyroid hormone T3) which would have increased the metabolic rate and appetite.

Well she didn't and I am trying to figure out if I should take this stuff. I don't think it will hurt me as I don't have heart problems or high blood pressure.
I used phentermine for a month or so. I have low blood pressure and, therefore, I am always sluggish, in a bad mood and reluctant to move. After several weeks of phentermine, low calory diet, and mild to moderate exercise I noticed that I started to feel good and energized even if I do not take phentermine. I noticed that I start losing weight even if I eat more than usual.
I think my heart got used to beating faster. I don't feel sleepy anymore and pretty active throughout the day. I do believe that phentermine changed my metabolism.
When people cannot exercise for a cardio stress test, doctors infuse drug that artificially increases blood pressure like cardio exercise. I believe it means if I can take a drug that makes my heart beats faster it is similar to me doing cardio exercise, and therefore, train my heart to beat faster. Increased heart rate and increased metabolism are synonyms because I lose more calories when my heart beats faster as I was running.
