I have to say good strong cheese is the one thing I miss most... I love it toasted on bread and cant have it now or only in small portions... I thought it would probably be sweet things but no I think the cheese...what food do you miss most when cutting down to lose weight..

I haven't been on a diet diet for decades. Now, I'm supposed to cut out and watch salt and sugar. I haven't wanted a salty rimmed Margarita for years, but I do now.

I was just going to say: whatever I'm not supposed to have, that's what I miss most.

I love sweets. And ice cream. Chips

I avoid these. Tho once in a while. I will treat myself

Everything in moderation

At a recent gathering some of the kids were bringing around plates and platters
Of Foods one was mini cupcakes. I tried one
They were sooo sweet. But I had a couple More

There are. A small number of foods I will not refuse
One of them are slightly undercooked chocolate chip cookies

And homemade date filled cookies

I honestly don't miss anything, that's the beauty of calorie management.

There are foods I no longer have because its calorie count is disproportionately high (e.g., milkshakes), but even with that, I could still indulge every now and again, but only if I adjust accordingly.

I have had such great success with my recent diet ( down 40lbs in alittle over 4 months ) - There is nothing I truly 'miss'

If I get a craving it soon passes and I have indulged in a few limited cheater meals ( pizza - burgers - take out teriyaki / rice ) so if I truly HAVE to eat something and think its worth the calorie count ... I will eat it. But its not a sign of craving or weakness.

Its just simply a choice. 97% of my food choices are good these days so the very rare 3% choices are quite limited in the bad affects they have on my body.

Very easy to manage those percectages where I am clearly in control of what is going into my pie hole on a daily basis

I believe that you and I are kindred souls diet wise. I practice calorie management myself and I've never been happier because I don't miss much. There are some foods that I just can't bring myself to eat any longer except on very special occasions, but there are many other things that I consume regularly. Once a week it's no holds barred when it comes to calories. On that day, I eat all sorts of unhealthy stuff - pizza, burgers, desserts, cookies, WHATEVER. Employing that strategy successfully eliminated cravings that could easily sabotage any progress. I don't deprive myself any longer and I'm all the better for it.

So to answer the OP, while I restricted calories (most of the time), I didn't follow any deprivation diet. I simply learned how to eat less and balance things out so that I got to enjoy all sorts of food. It really is liberating.

Until recently, it never occurred to me to measure out ice cream from the container; I'd either it all of it or eyeball what I considered to be a reasonable portion. It turns out that a half-cup of most of my favorite flavors/brands is only about 170 calories and typically very satisfying.

No need to deny myself, only a basic need to fit everything I want into the day somehow.
