I eat so-called good food, not junk. But evidently I eat too much good food. And I get hungry even when I know my stomach is not hungry. So what do you do to stop the desire to eat when you know you should have had enough?

I stop putting food in my mouth and tell my stomach to get over itself

LOL, can't do that yet. It's not so much the stomach. I know it's not hungry. I was hoping there would be a magic something.

try some ginseng candy or licorice, they suppress hunger

you might be hungry because you are missing some vitamins/minerals/whatevers, is diet balanced?

I think it's balanced, but you may have a good idea there with the ginseng candy or licorice. I'll try that. I don't think I'm missing vitamins, etc., but then it's possible. I actually do not take a multi vitamin every day, maybe I should try that, too. Thanks.

I read a book about gaining control over your eating. It was a suggestion that your survival instinct in your head wants you to eat and that is what makes you look for food when your not hungry. He said, you have to learn to spot your mind trying to do this and shut it down. After a while you get good at it and the "hunger" doesn't seem too great.

He also said to write up a food plan that you stick to no matter what. When you take the option of eating out of the equation mind doesn't constantly natter at you.

The food plan would be like,

I will always have this per day (say like 8 glasses of water)
I will never have chocolate.
I will eat cookies if they are low calorie
I will allow an extra snack only if I exercise.

It is called "never binge again".

I can agree with some of that right now. I was thinking about that. A person came by from local community action and took some information down because I was applying for help that I needed. And she asked me if I ate 5 fruits a day. Hardly. I try to eat at least one fruit a day. I'm thinking -- maybe I should have a goal of at least three whole fruits a day. ?? Maybe that will help me keep my appetite down. I know it's not the stomach, I got used to understanding when my stomach tells me it's reacting. And when it's full. But full doesn't always mean I don't want to eat. (That's the problem.)

Do you have 8 glasses of water a day? I try, but I don't think I reach 8 glasses of water a day. (Speaking of which, I should now have a few sips of water. <g> I already made my morning coffee.)

For me.. I can't stomach 8 glasses. But I try to have four. I also try to have a glass of water if I want to eat. Keeps me busy and usually kills the urge.

I don't like fruit and it doesn't help keep me full. Just wasted calories. I get my vitamins in veggies and supplements.

Eat what you want but cut back on portions. Weight will come off and stay off.

I can't do that. I eat until I don't want to eat any more. So I must do something else that I can tolerate. I don't want to crave food when I know I am not hungry. And I don't want to be hungry. I've lost weight, lots of it, in the past, but I remember always being hungry, even though I ate reasonably well. And once I reached a reasonable goal, I gradually went back to my old way of eating.

Like right now I just have an orange. OK, I like oranges. And it was a small one. My stomach is full, believe it or not. From the orange and coffee. But I still want to eat and look forward to the time soon that I will be eating whole grain toast with peanut butter or something like that. But now I'm full from coffee and an orange.
