Metformin is not known to cause lows. I take Met and another med and still do IF, usually on a 20/4 schedule. I know I will not go low because I have tested myself during a normal day. If I fast 20 hours and then workout, that's where I have to be careful. I am thinking of doing my 20/4 schedule without meds just to see how I react. Maybe just for a day to see with multiple tests throughout the day. I wake up around 115, I take my meds at 8am, and am around 100 at noon. I'm at about 85 to 90 when I eat dinner which is my only meal. I will also do some low carb snacks. These are all normal numbers with the meds and nothing to eat. I will note that I am on a reduced dose of my 2nd medication.

The main benefit of doing IF with a diabetic is not to reduce blood sugar it's to lower insulin. Insulin is just as or more damaging than high blood sugar. So your aim should be to keep both low.

Might be good to take the metformin again and see how that affects it. Talk to your doctor about it and see what he/she says, too.

I'm down to 193lbs this morning, and IF is helping a lot. I'm planning on dropping my water pill for blood pressure, as that's starting to go too low IMO. I'm also on Prinivil, so I don't think I need that water pill anymore. I had talked this over with my doctor last week Tuesday, and he agreed with the 30lb weight loss I've had so far, I'd be going off that pill fairly soon.

Guys can someone summarize the worked approaches for fasting? I don't find it in any most or I might have missed it. 16/8 is the most common? fast for 16 hours, eat and then 8 hour window for next meal? Any other recommendations? Thanks!

I really like Dr. Jason Fung for fasting. Here is an article but look him up on youtube for some good informative videos.

It works. I started doing it naturally in my early 20s before there was a name for it. It just makes sense if you are eating constantly you are never going to get to a point where you are burning fat because your body is using the food you have just eaten for fuel instead of stored fat.
