Chef Boy-ar-dee!
Been a long time since had that. Now matter what shape it came in (Beffaroni, Ravioli, etc.) it always tasted the same.
Hahaha, THAT I never ate.
My mother made meatballs and spaghetti with Ragu sauce. When I grew up and met people who made homemade sauce, I remember thinking, "Why would anyone do that when you can just buy it in a jar?"
Now I have a close friend who is appalled when she hears that anyone eats jarred sauce.
I agree.
What's more interesting as well is the lack of high street bakeries in the US.
They're on virtually every main Street in much of Europe providing a huge selection and variety of bread including lots of wholegrain, paninis, baguettes and wraps.
I particularly like German bakeries for the tastiest bread.
I stayed in an airbnb in a neighborhood in Paris. On the corner was a bakery, and one morning I got a baguette and coffee.
I am sixty years old, and that was three years ago, and that is the very best bread I ever ate in my entire life.
Haven't been to Germany. However when my dd was in school in China, she visited a neighboring province and found a bakery owned by a German woman who had been living in China for 22 years. She sent home pictures of all the wonderful baked goods, and the place did a booming business.
When I was growing up, there WERE bakeries in the USA. I lived in a small town, and we had three of them. I remember my mother sending us to get fresh bread and watching them put it in the slicer. Now the mom-and-pop bakeries are gone and the bakeries are mostly part of the supermarkets.

There are a LOT of European style bakeries in the city where I live. I could easily get very fat!!!

I'm binge watching Blue Bloods on Netflix, and there's an episode late in season 2 or early in season 3 where Linda goes back to work and Danny, when asked, contributes some/more at home as they adjust. At one of the Sunday dinners, almost everyone expresses how bad Danny's contribution tasted. They asked him what ingredients he used, and the sauce was either from a jar or a can....and that was 'the culprit'.
Sure, people can eat carbs and pasta and still lose weight.
Its all about portion size, for example 1 cup of cooked pasta is considered a serving size.
