im new here. im looking for a place that will help me underdtand dieting. i use to weight 400 pounds. now i weight 230 i didnt lose this weight on my own. for a moment in my life i sank into deep depression. everyone hits rock bottom as some point. after my depression i went from 400 pounds to 278. i have a learning disability which causes me to not understand things. thats the worst quality i have is this learning problem. it took me 3 months to fully understand calories. i stopped eating chinese food, pizza, soda. all i drink is water/selzer or unsweetend drinks like pure life green tea.i no longer eat like i use to. so i made a big improvement after my depression period. so after that improvement i went from 278 to 230. im trying my best to look better. and its been my goal to make changes to my body and my appereances. because if your confident then nothing cant stop you. and i feel like im confident but not enough. all my life in school and while growing up everyone called me fat, ugly disgusting. how can a person have self love when they been put down all there life by others. how can a person have self love when all you hear people say that your ugly. the bad thoughts i have of myself is from my trauma i delt with. i hate the way i look, i hate the way i speak, i hate the way i walk. i hate everything about myself. its hard to lose weight and try and eat healthy when im not rich and i cant afford to hire a trainer or a cook or buy certain foods. my dinner at night is based on my income. meaning i cant buy all these little things to cook a healthy meal. so ive been portioning my food and everytime before i eat something i ask my mother how much calories and sugars are in it because i refuse to eat things thats not healthy even if i have to stay without eating.my question is are calories and carbs the same? and also i tried to count my carbs but it was difficult. the carbs i counted in my meals adds up to more calories than carbs and thats my fear. i dont wanna intake lots of calories and sugar. im trying to lose my belly and basically strink it smaller so i could fit into normal size clothes.

It's hard to read what you wrote because you need some paragraph breaks. But to respond to the question posed in your subject line, I think the distinction is something like:

• Carbohydrates: any of a large group of organic compounds occurring in foods and living tissues and including sugars, starch, and cellulose. They contain hydrogen and oxygen in the same ratio as water (2:1) and typically can be broken down to release energy in the animal body.

• Calories: refer to the energy people get from the food and drink they consume, and the energy they use in physical activity. Calories are listed in the nutritional information on all food packaging. Many weight loss programs center around reducing the intake of calories.

So carbs are components of foods, and calories have to do with energy or heat.

Calories are the energy people get from food. Not the same as carbs. Carbs are a macronutrient. I know it is probably difficult but you need to get away from the processed foods and eat whole foods, fruits, veggies etc.

Also try get out of the house and get some exercise every single day, even if it's going for a brisk walk around the neighborhood for 30 min this will do wonders for your mental health and start getting you on the path to a healthier you.

I would also invest time in your personal development. There are many free podcasts and videos out there that will help you in your personal development to become a better person and feel better about yourself. Listening people to Ed Mylett can change your life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbUsxqANgvE

Get on the path to personal development and your life be amazing.
