I've gotten back on the "more veggies, beans, legumes," bandwagon lately, which is so much healthier. I cut red meat out about 85% over the last several years, and less animal protein in general. I do eat chicken and fish occasionally. I'm not a vegetarian, just trying to eat a more balanced diet, which I sometimes struggle with, so I've learned to incorporate veggies, fruits and those foods on a higher frequency and amount.

Anyway...

I started getting indigestion the last 2 weeks, something I'd not suffered from much before. I was popping Tums 2 or 3 times a day, every day. Maybe it's the veggies which I ramped up? Maybe it's the hot peppers I use to add some heat to my soups? Or the beans? I make mixed veggie soups in my Instant Pot, then puree it all together and add beans and shredded cheese to my bowl of veggie soup. Hmmm...

Yesterday, I went to a burger joint to get a big cheeseburger (and sides).

Damn my body LOVED it! I felt satiated, energized, and no indigestion whatsoever last night or this morning. No issues digesting the burger. I ate burgers growing up and all through the years.

So, once a month I'm going to inhale a big burger and let my body enjoy.

The rest of the time I'll be eating healthier.

My layman's view, as someone who had a marginal diet then undertook specific steps to lose slowly and surely over a 12 month period: there was an imbalance in gut flora and/or nutrients and/or specifically protein, fat, or carbs. The burger...beef, cheese, a bun, fixin's, etc....redressed that imbalance immediately.

Result: energy up, general improvement in well-being, etc. Shocker there...?

Interesting when we go off the diet we were evolved to eat, then subsequently feel bad. I've found success the past year through (in part) pre prepped meals that are paleo and keto. I'm not advocating those diets per se, but do suggest the back-to-basics makes me healthier. Demonstrably so. No shocker there either, but saying it and living it are different things. My nutritional doctor (ND) has plenty of insight about all this, and I've gotten irrefutable results. A focused exercise program is part of the story too, beyond scope of this reply.

Thinking you're on the right path. Perform more diet experiments, see how you feel and react.

Well I've done well with more veggies/fruits/whole foods in general. It's made a difference in the last few years on all the things doctors measure in blood tests, etc. And, as I said, I'm not a vegetarian, just have been eating less meat and getting in more veggies. Nothing drastic.

But yeah, my body will *always* love a big juicy cheeseburger.

My philosophy: everything in moderation, including moderation.
