I know I am preaching to the choir, and that you have heard this over and over and already know it yourself, as everyone does; there are no shortcuts - no sustainable shortcuts that is. Invariably the weight will come back, even more at that. Save yourself the misery of temporary loss and yo-yoing and potential further damage to your metabolism. Also, some pills are dangerous.
On another note, could she be ill and the medication be for illness as opposed to weight loss? It could also be why she is not revealing what's happening. Not wishing any ill will, just wondering of this could be the case.
Ephedra most certainly DOES work. It works best when stacked with caffeine and aspirin (if you hear people talk about an ECA stack, that's what they're talking about). I know this, because I've taken it. I still have a few bottles lying around actually.
I've used ephedra. It gives you more energy, but it does not affect your appetite. I did not care for it because it made the hair on the top of my head stand up and feel prickly. It also gave me a sense that I was "watching" myself do things rather than doing them.
The only thing that really worked for me was HCG shots, but I am not going to pay $400+ for a shot program.

It always killed my appetite when I took it. It actually got to be a PITA because it would make it hard to eat for almost the whole day.

Maybe just in Canada though, much more strict here with some of the prescription drugs.
It was banned, unbanned and then banned again back around 2006 or so. The FDA pushed through their ban on it, then it got overturned by a court but then a higher court upheld the ban.
Also it's only been banned as a dietary supplement. It alot of states it's still perfectly legal as a decongestant. It's still in some forms of Sudafed and there are even a few gas stations here that sell ephedrine pills.

Ephedra was banned here on Long Island because so many young people actually died after they took it.

no we still sell ephedra and ephedrine here in canada they still sell it a local health food stores they are just not allowed to market it as a diet aid here
My sister in law is taking a diet pill and I want to know what it is!
She had a baggie full of them in her purse & she took one before eating lunch out the other day. It has to be a diet pill, because she has lost a TON of weight in recent months & won't say how. I want to know so I can take it too, because clearly it works! But I can't just ask her because she has already said she doesn't know how she is losing so much weight ("stress" she says), and because she tried to be discreet about taking the pill.

Unfortunately, ephedra isn't a prescription drug.
