I didn't think starting this thread would cause so many problems. Those of you posting about your medical condition and that your doctors prescribed HCG for you....don't get me wrong. I am not bashing that you have a medical condition and this might not be for you. If you read my original post it says I have a friend that is doing this. She doesn't have a medical condition and unexplained weight gain...she just chose to do HCG as a way to lose weight fast. I personally would never do it.

It was mentioned in a previous post that other people on here that lose weight fast and are bashing the people that have a medical condition that can't. I don't lose weight fast. I just choose not to go the HCG route. It has always been a constant battle for me to loose that last 15 lbs or so.

I don't think that anyone should be putting down anyone else. It's a discussion. That is what this is, a forum to discuss.

I also have Hashimotos disease and you really should see a specialist. This is something entirely different then just gaining wt.
I was put on medication at once (after gaining 25 lbs very very quickly) I take Armour(thyroid pills), and with exercise and smart eating, I lost it all.
Please see an Endocrinologist or an MD who specializes in Thyroid. Not just any doctor.
As much as I dislike the thought of meds the rest of my life, I can not tell you how it has helped with energy, outlook and health. Good Luck.
Some of us have been on thyroid meds since age 8 (from an Endo) and are not having results anymore by the time we hit 49!

Could it be something to do with being pre menopausal. That's what my doctor told me when I was gaining weight and not really doing anything out of the ordinary.

Sure that could be a part of it but I now have Hashimotos (which I don't think I had before) and have have PCOS since my early teens and it is most likely that more than anything (most people who have it are obese). I exercise a lot (have run many 10ks, walked half marathons, hiked in the mountains - still do vigorously) however I havbe always been to heavy.

Wait a minute, you're over 49 years old, have a thyroid problem, hashimotos and are still on the HCG diet?

Excuse me, but I think I just threw up a bit of my brown rice, grilled salmon, steamed veggies and healthy protein shake.

WTF??! Well, good luck with your heart attack diet.

Sad. So sad. Well, you go right ahead in risking your own health with false hopes of losing weight with the most idiotic diet Ive ever heard of. Hope you dont have any children because they will be burying a parent very soon if you go on this diet. Pancakes, cheeseburgers, fries? What, no deep fried twinkies?

Glad to see that of ALL the healthy weight loss programs out there in the world, you choose the ONLY one that allows you to eat pancakes, cheeseburgers, fries and ice cream (twice).

Default HCG works....!

I had 7/8 of my thyroid taken out when I was 21, and at 50 got hosimotos........using "soy" products is a leading cause of hosimotos, there are a lot of mid-age women who come down with it after using soy products......I had just gone on a soy kick, recommended by my health food store, did soy for about a year, then developed hoshimotos.........I was put on thyroid meds at that time, and my endo said I was on correct meds for me, but I never felt "energetic", still felt low thyroid, till I did met the right MD who diagnosed me on how I felt, not what the tests said..........he also put me on HCG, which further balanced my thyroid and got me off blood pressure meds.........I'm 61 now, finished HCG about a year ago and feel better than I've ever felt in my life.......
the 500 calorie diet is not a problem because you are living off the nutrients in the stored fat you are getting rid of..........it is NOT unhealthy......

I see. There sure are a lot of great nutrients in our stored fat arent there? Someone should just bottle it up and sell it as a Nutritional snack.

"Hey LaoTzu, want some Tony Romas baby back ribs?"
"Oh no thanks, Im getting healthy by tapping into this nutritious fat thats on my stomach and backs of my arms".

Margaret, I say this in the most respectful way I can because you are someone's grandmother and my elder so you should always be respected, but your post is just flat out looney tunes. What is actually happening, is that the body goes into starvation mode and begins to cannibalize itself. This is dangerous and definitely unhealthy. I dont know if those folks at the "clinic" (I know HCG is NOT given at hospitals) have brainwashed you, or they are just taking advantage of people in desperate need, but beg you to never do this HCG again and to NEVER recommend it to anyone else.

People, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, talk to your own M.D. about this dangerous diet before you begin it. DO NOT listen to the crooks, snake oil saleswomen and low lifes who are pushing and promoting this.

Go to the Yahoo group hCG Dieters and you will see that each of us is a different person. You are lying when you say that everyone that posts that they have done the hCG diet successfully has the same IP address and if you would bother to ask the actual moderator of this forum, they would tell you so. There are over 12 THOUSAND people on the hCG Dieters forum on Yahoo groups that will tell you that you don't know what you are talking about. I invite you to visit there if you have the courage.

Thank you for being a nice person and acknowledging that for some people, the regular old diet and exercise just don't work. I was almost suicidal because I couldn't lose weight before. Take a look at these Gary Taubes videos if you still believe that a calorie is a calorie is a calorie, or that calories in equal calories out:

This part just doesn't make sense to me. If you already have alot of fat on your body, why can't it just work on the fat you already have and what you have been eating normally.

The reason for this is that when you are obese, your body has stored fat in abnormal fat stores that the body does not access easily. The hCG makes those stores available for burning, after it builds up for two days. During the two days of eating fat while the hCG is building up, the body can replenish the normal fat stores, such as under your heels and to support your organ structure, that have likely been depleted by previous dieting, that will access the normal fat stores before the abnormal ones that are less likely to be burned. I had heel pain upon getting out of bed before hCG and no longer have that problem, because those normal stores were restored.

I have been reading more about it on the internet, I see it has been around for many years. I just had never heard of it before a couple weeks ago. I agree you have to change the way you eat, it's a life style change and if you havn't changed, you will revert back to old habits.
I agree with you and it is amazing how your tastes in foods change after hCG and how you are used to eating whole fruits and veggies now and want them instead of junk food. And you don't want processed foods or refined carbs anymore. That is the key to staying slim forever, to avoid food additives such as MSG, HFCS, and so on.
