I asked the moderator and she said I can post the health site.

Scroll to the bottom of the page for the "Weight Loss" thread. (It is in alphabetical order). This site covers all kinds of health issues too. It's a great site. The Vitamin thread helped me a lot too,

Enjoy, Roma

also, congrats to those that have lost a lot of weight. you now are at the toughest point; keeping the weight off. the best way of approaching it is seeing yourself as a completely new person. you have will power, improved self-confidence and self-image, and knowledge of healthy eating and exercise. continue to be the new you by eating healthy and staying active. don't go back to being the old you on the inside, because you will become the old you on the outside.

Well, I've lost 15 lbs in the past 2 months and I'm kinda proud of myself for that, because for the past 20 years I've been overweight and I haven't had the will power to work on losing it. But I recently got so disgusted with myself (and also disgusted with seeing every other guy with a flat stomach who looks nice in his clothes) that it has motivated me to finally kick up the willpower to lose it. I have 85 more pounds to go, and would like to do that within the next 12-15 months.

I can't say I'm sticking to a STRICT diet, but I've certainly changed my habits. I'm forcing myself to eat smaller portions (sticking to the recommended serving sizes on packages), and laying off the fats and sweets. Oh, I have a sweet now and then, but nowhere near what I used to consume. (BTW, diet soda sucks!) I'm also walking 3 to 4 miles a day, 4 or 5 days a week. This is a big deal to me, because these are things I just didn't do before.

What I'd like to know is what are the best foods to eat for keeping up my metabolism and energy levels, while not being loaded with calories?

LOL ... your story is very similar to my husband and mine. We just got sick of looking at ourselves in the mirror and decided enough is enough! It's definitely tough but take it a day at a time and don't forget small goals. INstead of saying, "I have 85 more pounds to go," you can say, "When I lose 5 more pounds I will treat myself to a new_____" (fill in the blank).

It's awesome what you're doing. Keep it up!

my best advice would be to keep things balanced; don't drop any macro nutrient from your diet. being that you are walking a considerable amount, don't shy away from the carbs (but also don't go crazy with it). stay away from a lot of "diet" foods as they're heavily processed and aren't that great. try to get most of your carbs from whole grains, and most of your fat from nuts and fish

also, LIFT WEIGHTS! building muscle is great for keeping your metabolism high. all of that walking is burning away precious muscle

Weight lifting may also naturally curb your appetite! At least it does for me. And walking, well, it seems to make me hungry. Is it in my head???

Thanks for the tips. I'll bear them in mind.

I actually didn't know about the loss of muscle from walking (no wonder my legs get so tired sometimes) - so I'll have to start doing the weight lifting thing, too.

Good thread...glad I saw it.
