I have only been on 2 "diets" that have ever worked. One was Jenny Craig. JC was expensive and I was starving all the time. The other was a program that allowed no white stuff and limited 1200 calories a day.

What is the best diet program that worked for you and would you recommend it?

Thanks!,

Dawn

I've never been on a "diet". I think the term "Waist Management" is more to my liking.
IMO those "clubs" ie., JC, WW, and the rest of them are huge scams...people get soaked with weekly fees...if it works for someone more power to you.

**I think the most important thing is to make eating so easy and automatic that you never realize that you're "dieting".**

With that said, I highly recommend "YOU On A Diet"...The Owner's Manual For Waist Management. It is a book by Michael Roizen, M.D and Mehmet Oz, M.D.
Any Oprah fans will recognize the name Dr.Oz.
The book and program is excellent and very informative.

South beach, with a little bit of exercise, worked best for me.

I started exercising in November/December 2003. I was getting married in January 2004. I weighed in November: 128.

By my wedding date, actually, the week before the wedding for my bachelorette party, I weighed 114. I lost 14 pounds.

Just recently I did South Beach. Within a month or two I went down from 128 (yep, gained it back, didn't I!!) to 119.5 without exercise, but then I had company down for the holidays. I got off the diet, and now I weigh 124.

I plan to get back on the diet once my new company leaves next Sat, get back down to my goal weight of 114 with the diet, and then get off the diet and just really watch what I eat. Each time I have gained the weight back, I didn't watch anything, except for all of the desserts and chocolate going back in my mouth.

I lost 60 pounds recently. The way I did it was by eating around 1200 calories a day. Drinking lots of water and green tea. Eating only healthy foods like veggies, fruits, nuts and whole grains. It felt really good eating healthy, kinda like a whole body cleanse. I lost my weight I gained since being married and now I am just maintaining it. I eat probably around 2000 calories a day now and I still eat healthy. It is a lifestyle change.

That is the way I lost it the 2nd time too, although I stayed around 1200 calories. Are you a male? If I eat even 1500 I maintain, over that, I gain.

I am a 41 year old female. I do have to be careful what I eat or I will gain weight too. I'm not positive that I eat 2000 calories now but I do know it is over 1200. It might be about 1500 calories now. I'm just not sure. But I do know it is a lot more then 1200.

I used to write everything I ate down. I measured my food and counted calories. I stopped that because I got lazy. So in reality, I can't say for sure how many calories I eat a day. Tomorrow, out of curiosity, I'm going to measure, write everything down and count my calories.

Default Weight Watchers

I think Weight Watchers is a good program. The weekly weigh-in "accountability" reality check has helped my husband and I ! They also advocate a very healthy diet plan and exercise. Plus, I like the fact you can eat out and adapt it to whatever your lifestyle is. No forbidden foods, no special foods to be purchased etc. Our instructor is particularly good though. That makes a difference too. We have several of our friends going now and they have lost weight and done well too. But like any diet program, you do have to work it yourself.

If I want something sweet I eat a piece of fruit. I stay away from soda pop both diet and regular. I rarely eat any snack foods and don't keep any in the house. I drink 2% millk twice a day. It's amazing but I can't eat junk food anymore it makes me sick. Occasionaly like every couple of months I'll buy 6 cookies from a bakery and take a week to eat them. I have two scoops of ice cream once a week. I've been living like this for years with a steady exercise program I've maintained a 35 inch waist at six feet tall.

I don't count calories. I just eat mainly whole foods, make my own fruit and veggie jucies and have that daily. I have one meal a day, dinner, but it's light. I do have one or two fruit snacks a day, an apple or banana during the day and grapes for after dinner snack.
No junk or processed foods in my house, just whole foods. No meats or dairy either.
