I am another in support of leather + pets. Currently 11 dogs in the house including four large breed and not a single mark on the leather couch we have. It's been MUCH better than any of the fabric pieces we've ever had. Have a leather recliner in the bedroom too and the shepherd - all 80 pounds of her - sleeps on it every night. No marks at all. Super easy to clean, especially when compared to fabric. And because it cleans so easy you don't have to worry about it getting that doggie smell. I've got a fabric chair in the living room, loveseat in the bedroom and a couch in the den and even though I vaccuum and 'freshen' on a regular basis they all need very regular cleaning with a carpet cleaner to keep them useable. I've never had a fabric couch last me more than a couple years. That said, we've had 30 - 50 dogs in the house the last five years because of the rescue so we're definitely harder on them than the average house is, but the leather pieces still look new.

Thanks for the laugh.

I have dark gray leather couches. I think they're about 8 years old. They look to be in pretty good shape. Just usual wear but nothing dog related. But then again, my dog is only 12 pounds. I did, however, have my aunt make a cover for the top of the couch. This was to protect it from my dog's toenails or wet paws when she'd jump up there to look through the blinds to see what was going on in her territory. She tends to like to curl up like a cat and sleep up there too.

I think leather is the way to go.

We only have one large peke now, but our leather sofa, rocking chairs and loveseat have
served us well over the years with our pets. We've had several dogs and cats. Like others say,
they stand up to animals well without being shedding magnets. They did get a few scratches
but no tears.
