OK, I'll take a wild guess. Jack Russell/Cocker Spaniel. Except he seems too small for that. What a cutie! Thanks for helping him and I hope he finds a good home quickly!
Cocker / Beagle was my first guess. Where's SearchingForMayberry? She adopted a 1/2 cocker, 1/4 beagle 1/4 peke from me. Different color, but the face is similar.
Based on size, face, ears. Coloring would be in the correct range, many non-AKC Beagles that come from hunting packs have mega ticking and that type of coloring. In fact there are several packs down here in the south that dog would fit right in.
Heres a picture of his face. Everyone seems to think the beagle mix so far. ive never seen a beagle with this coloring and spots so maybe he is part red heeler like the other poster said

Go to google images and type in "lemon ticked beagle" and you'll see beagles with that exact coloring.
Most people are used to seeing the tradish tri color beagle but they come in lots of colors and plenty of ticking (small spots). Also, hunting packs carry many different colors, they aren't bred for the show ring but for a hunting pack and many vary in size and color that you won't see on TV or a dog show.
returning west is aboslutly correct, ticked beagles are much more common in hunting packs ect too.
