And hounds tend to be more independent that way - distance wise. They will run and run and run, going after what they think they should be doing, or what is the most interesting thing they can find to be doing. And they don't have a small area they do that in.

I think that is a basic difference from most other breed/types of dogs. Most dogs have a much more limited area that they will operate in. Hounds - will go a long ways away from "home". I know my hounds had a much larger operational "zone" than my other dogs.

The bloodlines we have are bred not to come back..........keep up the chase until the prey is caught....(up a tree is the goal).

And then they STAY at the tree.

That is where they are caught.

If not...........someone has to jump on them as they go by.

So, it takes a lot of people for a hunt.

Last year one of the new hunters was watching the GPS.........waiting for the dogs to cross a small road.

They wanted the first dog out of the race. (Jenny is older........but, a great cold tracker)

He go so evolved in watching the GPS..........when the dogs were ready to cross........he forgot the bear

would cross first.

Thank God he missed jumping on the bear.
