i know when i get myself situated, i want 4 bull mastiffs and a british bull dog. i have had dogs all my life, before i came to the usa, i had a large pit. she was well trained.
at one time when i was younger we had something like 18 dogs at one time. though not long were they there. not only 5 dogs but, 4 of them could weight as much as 200 +lbs. but, i will train them like my pit i had. she ate when i told her to. she understood hand signals. and i could leave food infront of her, she would take 2 steps back. i could walk away for 15 mins and she would sit and watch where she last saw me. when i said "eat" she did, and i could take her food from her. she would not bark just take 2 steps back. and sit. if i had a tiny piece of food, she would try and nibble from my hand. as she was trained i will train my new "bark n bites"
My husband and I own three American Pit Bull Terriers and they are amazingly smart! They also learn very quickly! They will pick up on things even if we aren't training them. For example, when it's time for bed one of us (me or my husband) will always say something like "Are you ready to go to bed?" or "Lets go to bed" and now whenever we say one of those things the dogs will get up and run to their crates. The girls, Destiny and Jayda aren't quite as eager to learn as Brooklyn is though. Brooklyn loves to learn new things and he loves doing what we tell him to do. As long as he feels he's making us happy, he's happy! He's no where near as well trained as your pit was.. lol.. but if I tell him to stay, no matter where I go or what I do, he will sit right where I left him until I tell him other wise. He also doesn't mess with food unless we tell him he can. With his food we just make him sit and then we give him his food and let him eat, but with treats or people food he won't mess with it unless he's told to. We can put a treat on his nose or paw and he will just sit there until we tell him "get it". He's such an awesome dog! Your pit sounds like it was an amazing dog! Do you have any pictures? If you don't mind me asking, why do you want 5 dogs? Normally people will say they want a dog of a certain breed and then just end up with a lot of dogs. Like my husband and I wanted one APBT and now we have three, but we never just said we want three APBTs. Why 4 Bull Mastiffs and 1 British Bulldog?

i think i can find a photo of her, her name was ufa. and well, i always wanted big dogs, when i saw a mastiff i knew that is what i wanted. 4 a male and his female. the british bull came after thought. can you imagine how some people would be afraid to see a healthy big guy, with 4 huge dogs? the british bull is to possibly ward off the fear. if i have a photo of my pit would you care to see? again if i have one.
my dogs will be named intugwydamala, mondavoo, chagas and dengue. the b bull will be irankundji.
Just a thought: Many US cities have laws about the number of dogs a person can own. In Atlanta, a person must apply for a special permit to own over 4 dogs. I recommend that you really do your homework on this, so you don't end up having to get rid of one of them. You might also want to consider whether you will ever move to another US city. Many cities actually have the limit set at 3 dogs.
When me and my husband get finally situated, we'll have several dogs ( more than two ) for sure. It's funny, because when I go to animal shelter, I would like to adopt all of them.No we won't go "crazy", like a dozen of them at once or so, but probably 4. They are a lot of work, but if you are sure that you'll take care of them ( good care ) then I don't see why not. Well, look at Sam I Am!!!SHE HAS 7 DOGS!!!And they are excellent!!!
