My dogs picked up fleas when I was visiting my Dad in S.Florida a few months ago. I cannot get rid of the fleas. Capstar along with Frontline is not working anymore. I do give them a bath with Dawn (blue) but that is temporary.
I'm going to be trying some essential oils this summer, along with Dr. Bonners peppermint soap.
I can't imagine Frontline not working. I just want to get away from using chemicals.
Comfortis? It's taken orally not topically. My dog went and stayed with a "friend" while I was out of town and brought home visitors. You have to give it with food. I only had to use it once cause he's old and cares nothing for socializing anymore. It worked better for us than frontline/advantix.
It worked well, the fleas were dead within 24 hours. I definitely weighed the chemical vs. Natural flea treatments. He is older dog and was fine with treatment.
Trifexis - it might be helpful in S. Florida - I used K9 Advantix when I lived inland in NC and it was great, but had zero effect when I moved just a couple of hours east to coastal NC, where the climate is very different. I was pretty shocked. I'm actually starting to worry about that one too because for the past two months I've been seeing fleas on her just before she was due, but it's not like it's a force field and with the mild winter the fleas are REALLY bad this year (ugh)
@Claudhopper
I do not like putting any chemicals on my dogs either. For 4 years I just gave my dogs a Dawn bath and it kept the fleas away.
I am going to try Triple Sure again.

One of my dogs is flea sensitive and she's been clobbered with the explosion we've had this year. Basically none of the ones that ususally die in the cold of winter did with the temps so mild so just walking across your own yard is hazardous to your skin. But she was cleared off with a flea comb daily and lightly powered with DE and the next day covered again. Here frontline quit working and the vet isn't selling it for fleas anymore.
I called asking what they reccomend and got a pill for her and my male. They immediately started dropping them off. I've seen no bad reactions and can still bathe them. Now to get the yard and house and cats. I was advised for the cats to use advantage, and am hoping it works. But the dogs and people drag them in the house. Now if there was a flea pill for people...
