Hello, we just had our lawn sprayed with grass as they call it!! Im just wondering if its safe to take the two dogs out on it to go to the bathroom!! Everyone tells me its safe but i guess i just need to be reinsureed!! Please help! thank you very much chrissydean
If its Hydroseed, its ground up newspapers, fertilizer and grass seed mixed with water and sprayed on an area to promote fast germination for the grass. The seeds have a favorable germination and growing medium that can hold water better than bare soil. The fertilizer isnl;t toxic to dogs unless they eat it or lick it off their body. Dogs (and people) should not be allowed on hyrdoseed areas because it disturbs the seed bed. The area should be fenced or roped off.
The other common green thing is the universal identification dye used in weed killer. Kts mixed in to enable the person putting it down to see where it is and alert everyone else where the weed killer was applied. Stay away until weeks after aplication. Some states have been changing to Red or Yellow as the dye so as not to confuse with other products.
That's exactly what it is. We had our back lawn hydroseeded six years ago. It isn't toxic, but you don't want dogs walking in it or they'll trurn green!

You need to contact your lawncare company and ask for the chemical name (not the brand name) of the product they used. They will always tell you it's safe after it dries, but that isn't necessarily true. If y9our dogs eat grass that has been sprayed within several days, it could impact their health if it's an especially bad chemical. If 2,4-D was used, be very careful. That's a bad one.
Earlier I went to the store for milk via Scooter! On the way back I saw 3 rabbits & 2 groundhogs nibbling in the middle of all the newly sprayed green. Sooo Maybe its not toxic??
It isn't toxic, believe me. And even if there is fertilizer in it, the absolute worst thing that might happen is a little tummy upset from eating something unfamiliar. It's mostly cellulose, waterbased dye and grass seed. It certainly isn't any worse than Purina food. I use the biomulch part of that stuff all the time when I patch grass. It's nothing to worry about.
Here are a few material data safety sheets for commonly used hydroseeding slurries. It's pretty benign. It's basically chopped up newspaper (or other cellulosic bulk, like straw or hay dust, to serve as a mulch) with guar gel, seed and some green dye. If you wouldn't think twice about eating a cupcake with colored icing then you probably shouldn't think twice about incidental exposure to "that green stuff".
I'd find out from an authoritative source, e.g., poison control center, as I mentioned in a previous post. I would never expose my animals to any chemical without learning first.

Read the thread. It isn't chemical. It's pulverized paper (cellulose), grass seed and a low dose of fertilizer, no e of which will cause any more stomach upset than a new food or treat.
