As if the dog in his/her natural state is broken? I don't get this? Like, why use that terminology fixed for an altered dog?

'Cause it's simple, you don't have to specify using gender-specific terminology, and "altered" could mean anything...docked tail, ears, etc. It's not particularly specific. Neither is "fixed," bit most people know what "fixed" means, there won't be any confusion. It's just a clarity thing.

I take it as fixed as the opposite of broken- I think most people know what fixed means, because it is beaten in our heads by rescuers "if you don't fix" then _______ will happen (insert negative emotion)-

To the point that it seems almost negligent or criminal to not get a dog neutered! Which shouldn't be the case, it should be my choice what I want done to my pet-

I don't know where the word came from, but it is easier than saying spayed or neutered, and I don't think anyone means it in the way you see it. It's just a word.
Now, since you brought it up, why don't you want to get your dog altered? I hope you make very sure you aren't going to bring more puppies into the world unless you're breeding quality purebred dogs. Feel free to ignore my question since it wasn't your topic, but you did mention "your choice".

I guess I don't have strong feelings where I'm adamant about leaving dogs un-neutered/un-spayed. I'm not a breeder, so why else would I lobby for my dogs' reproductive rights?

I am a responsible pet owner, so my dogs are never out of my sight to become neighborhood baby daddies - I don't alter my males because as a result I have seen a lack of working drive when done by others

The same with my females, as I show both, and after neutering you are disqualified-

I bet data would show that overpopulation is a more of a result from strays mating w/ strays rather than backyard breeders just having puppies to sell on craigslist-
