Exactly how does one teach a dog that it's not acceptable?
I'm all ears.
Using a leash for starters. Then desensitizing them by pre-empting then correcting the red zone behaviors AND providing lots of outlets for that energy like long walks every single day at least twice a day.
I realize some people live in areas with alot of feral cats that you can't predict will be in a yard. But it's not common at all where I've ever lived so that's a factor, too. If it's common and you know your dog is "that way" then ...
It happens. My family has pit bulls. They have gotten rabbits, moles, mice, snakes, skunks, a real big ground hog, my nephew's pet hampster..... never any cats or other dogs though
I have to say that when my dog gets hold of a rabbit, it bugs the crap out of me, but the dumb things won't quit coming into our yard.
ik what your talking about. growing up we had a weiner dog that slayed rabbits. its instinct and its not the dogs fault a rabbit decides to have a (litter?) 10 feet from the backdoor.
How the heck does high prey drive= aggressive towards humans?
Why are you assuming that the OP is letting their dog run round without a leash where there's traffic?
And up is up with the eye rolling? The OP didn't seem particularly giddy about this event.

I don't want to un-canine my dog (just like I would never declaw a cat). Right now, she's barking at squirrels running along the top of a block wall. If I was to train that out of her, what is she to do during her occasional stints outside?
I understand why such training might be necessary for some dogs in some environments but for my normally docile dog, her prey drive gives her an adrenalin rush. Who am I to squash that?
