When one thinks "oddities with dog poop" who else would one think of?
Probably a dog who got out came and ate it. My dog has been known to eat poop when she can get it, although she doesn't like her own.
Someone mentioned hedgehogs...we don't have wild hedgehogs in the US and the pet ones eat a diet that's much higher in protein than dogs eat. They're also too small to haul away a good sized poop bag.

A friend who has a degree in Agronomy uses dog poop and litterbox waste in her compost piles. They are big compost piles, about 3' x 6' and maybe 4' tall.
