No, not the cheapy dollar store curtains. I tried those, and the claws did go right through. I went to Target and paid $6-$7 for mine, maybe a little more. It's a heavier vinyl and much more durable. I was able to cover about 3-4 medium crate pads with one curtain. Wrap it like like you would a gift and tape down all edges completely. Packaging tape (not scotch or duct) works great.

A friend of mine plopped a crib mattress on the floor for her dog and covered it with a crib sheet. Just wipe to clean, if your dog doesn't scratch it up and destroy it.

we use acrylic blankets and towels for our small dogs. they get washed regularly and are on top of carpet and work just fine.
