Are any of you trying to adopt a Sochi dog? Are you having any luck?

I am SURE I would not pass inspection for that adoption.

Anyway.....I feel that same way about those dogs as adopting children from other countries....not until all children from the US have safe loving homes.

There are few of them, and a huge shelter population right here in the US, with dogs just as deserving. It's similar to any dog whose compelling story makes it to the news for one reason or another. People come out of the woodwork to adopt it, one is chosen, and almost none of the other people decide to adopt another dog instead. Very sad. If you want a dog, go down to your local shelter. Your new best friend is waiting there!

We have no reason to adopt an animal from a different country since there are so many in the USA that are just as deserving. All of our animals past and current have been adopted from a shelter or were strays that we took in and we will continue to put food out for the strays that don't come close but still need to eat.

I'd have to agree with the above. Until we can fix our own problems, then we should adopt out of the country.

The Sochi dogs are good PR for raising awareness of the dog problem in our own country.

They are getting good press. That can't be a bad thing.

But there aren't very many of them. There are, however, plenty of good old All-American mutts that need a home, if you happen to have room in your house for another dog.

I do have to comment that it looks like only the most attractive looking mutts were brought from Sochi. Either that or their mongrels are sure better looking than ours.

It's very difficult to adopt one of them. It's like trying to get the hottest designer dress, or a celebrity signed purse, or a jersey worn by a high profile athlete. The fact that it’s a living breathing animal is probably secondary to many who want it as a social statement; "Yes, I have a Sochi dog", "Yes, I have a Versace". The Sochi dogs are just the latest designer animal fad. Most probably could care less about the actual dog. I think shelters should select a dog each week and claim it’s a Sochi dog, that way they know they will have a bidding war on their hands for at least 52 dogs each year.

I agree with everyone thus far and will go a step further by saying if someone only wants a sochi dog it should be a BIG RED FLAG...seriously, if getting a dog is what they really want there is no need to get one from sochi.

Its like the "arson puppies" ...everyone trying to get one of these puppies due to the high profile case in a city that euths hundreds of purebred dogs because there is no one coming forward to adopt them.

I guess I don't think like some of you. I can't imagine someone adopting one as a 'status symbol.' That's crazy. I've just fallen in love with them....like I do every dog I see.
