Hi, please provide any opinions on what breed or breeds my dog may be. We have no background of where he came from and he is just over 1 years old.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

It is so hard to tell with dog's that have a mystery for a background. I can't tell his size from the photo but look up Carolina Dog or Feist or maybe a Jack Russell mix.

Love guessing breeds... get a DNA test and let us know what he is.

My guess: Australian Cattle Dog / Swiss Mountain Dog

Because it's interesting. Because it gives you a clue as to what may drive its personality.

If I didn't know my dog was a Catahoula, I would have very little insight into why he is the way he is. They are a unique breed with some interesting traits. There are quite a few people who have them, but assume they are a generic mutt.

For example, he quickly becomes bored when we practice the same thing too much. I've had border collies, which are just fine and dandy with repetition.

If I did not know he was a Catahoula, I would never have taken him herding. And I would not understand why he moves the way he does when he is chasing something - his breed is trained to herd cattle by approaching them from the front, so when we are lure coursing, he tends to try to head off the "bunny" rather than chasing behind it.

Knowing a dog's breed background gives you a better idea as to why it behaves the way it does. WHY are you acting like this is an odd question?

I see aussie and I see bull terrier...mabe a little beagle in there too, but definatly a lot of ACD and block head (bull terrier) going on BEAUTIFUL!

id expect a heard headed but incredibly smart dog who seems to love making you laugh (even if it is occasionally out of frustration) with a lot of drive and a heart to match.
