The pickiest dog I ever had would take anything wrapped in raw ground chuck. Cheese usually works as well, but some medecines shouldn't be given with dairy.
Try another brand. My dog was prescribed fish oil to help improve the taste of her kidney disease diet dog food. It was this brand of salmon oil. She liked it.
I don't think giving coconut oil to a dog that is overweight, is a good idea.
It is high in saturated fat.
My Shepherd is very much like me when it comes to fish in any form.
My entire life, I have had a problem with sea food.
Just the smell of it makes me sick to my stomach.
Like me, my Shepherd doesn't want to be any where near it.
I use to give him coconut oil, but stopped when he started putting on the pounds.
That was when I read the label on the jar of coconut oil.
He liked it, but it is now a no,no.
I tried those fish oil caplets, but as soon as he bit into them, he walked away from his food.
I think dogs just don't like the slithery round feel of the gelcap. The pump bottle of Nutrivet oil mentioned by Eggalegga is very good. I'd try that. There is another one called Kronch, which we've used. It doens't have a strong odor and comes in a pump bottle also.
Strangely, my dog would eat it if I punctured it and poured it over her food.
But wouldn't touch the stinky gel cap.
It helped her so much that I started taking it.
I tried that also, and as soon as he smelt the fish on his food, he walked away from it.
Bob.
