Advertisements

Just saw an ad on a list serv for a house for rent--for one month--in a nice area of Oakland, CA.

The advertiser wants $2000 rent for the month, a $1000 security deposit -- and-- care of their dog...walks, feeding, yard clean-up...etc.

So for $2000 (plus $1000 security deposit), the renter gets to house and pet sit and pay $2000 for the privilege..

Struck me as unreasonable -- or maybe I'm nuts. But it IS a great way to finance your vacation...

What do you think?

I guess it might suit dog lovers, but for that price for one month, I want to think that this is a fancy million dollar mansion.

While I do think the person should be paying someone to sit their dog not someone paying the dogs owner to house /dog sit I will say in much of California $2000 /month rent is not uncommon. In Santa Barbara where I live you would be lucky to find a nice 2 bedroom apartment/ condo or very small house for that as many of my coworkers who rent and have a 2 bedroom place pay about $2400.month and no they are not beautiful homes just everyday condos and apartments or small run down homes and often if you have a pet there is a couple more hundred tacked on per month Sad but true which is why I am glad I bought my place years ago.I know people in many parts of the country think WTF? but here that is life. Unless you have a connection to a property owner that has owned the place a long time and is not greedy and some people have found such places but that is rare.
