I have an Aussie (she is no longer a mini) who follows me into the bathroom. I have met other owners that say that their Aussies do the same and we all laugh about it. I never had another breed owners say that about their dogs. I have a shepherd mix too and she follows me around the house but never to the bathroom.
Is this quirky behavior only attributed to Aussies or are there other breeds that do that? Not talking individually but I am wondering if there are certain breeds that do this.
All my Dobermans have. One of them used to open the shower curtain alittle to see if I was in there, when she couldn't find me and I guess heard the water running.
My dog likes to come into the bathroom and have me open the shower door. Then she goes in and wants it closed so she can lie in the and look at me through the glass. If I don't shut the door for her, she tries to do it herself. She's a mix of I'm not sure what.
Do not think it is a breed thing but more an individual dog thing as most of the dogs I have owned followed me in or acted very insulted if I closed the door so they could not come in. Most dog owners I know have said the same about their dogs.
My GSD does it, and he is the only one I GSD I have had. Most of my dogs will "escort" me, but they don't make it a habit to settle in like he does! All different breeds, and none have insisted, except him.
He will stay while I shower. He wants to find a spot to lay down even when I am brushing my teeth, or just making a pit stop.
His body takes up so much room in the guest bathroom that I have to ask him to leave. Poor dog!
I can see Aussies doing it too, any breed that is very velcro I would probably prefers to be there. I like breeds a bit more independent, but I don't discourage my GSD from the behavior since it is obviously what he feels he needs to do.
He doesn't bother me, he just wants to lay down, and "be there".

Good answer. I definitely don't shut the door on the ones who lay in the hall, or on the bed waiting patiently.
It is not something I have ever thought about, but now that you mention it... I don't know why I do it.
If or when I have shut the door, I open it to find them lined up waiting.

I know individual dogs do it but I personally know few Aussie owners and am part of an Aussie facebook group that consistently say that about their Aussies.
Of course some dogs will escort you into the bathroom from time to time but Aussies seem to do it consistently and will stay there until owners leave.
My Boston Terriers (3) and Frenchie (1) all do it...every time. When I do have to shut the door, they're patiently waiting on the other side.
