Not realizing that our abused rescue Sophie really needed a trainer to help us work through her issues. She turned out to be a great dog but always had some limits in social interaction with other dogs and some men. I honestly didn't know any better and worked with her as much as I could but in my defense she did eat all the dog training books that I bought.

Hahaha!

I have a dog training book that I've kept for years, because my puppy chewed it up and I think it's hilarious.

My elderly male border collie would ONLY chew up books on dog training. He actually pulled one off the shelf to gnaw on it. Now, I have a HUGE personal library and only a few dog training books, so it was a very pointed message.

Thankfully, I wont have the opportunity to do this ever again because I've adopted only older dogs for the past 25 years.

But, for the first 15 years, that I had dogs, I had a breed that is shown with cropped ears. So I bought puppies and endured the cropping and painful aftercare (removing tape). Never again.

Cropped ears are done for what? Just looks? I think a Doberman with intact ears looks BETTER. But maybe the convention originated from desire to make them look more fierce. It does have that effect, sort of makes the whole head look like a giant fang with two smaller top fangs.

I read that Heelers get their tails docked to make them more agile for their intended job. No long rudder hanging out the back. That would be an example of docking for function...allegedly. I have seen only one or two undocked Heelers.

Letting his nails get longer than necessary as a pup. Now if we cut off more than the tips
he bleeds.

I would never try to house break a puppy without a crate. Otherwise, there are too many accidents and too much tension.

Cropping was originally done so that robbers (from whom the dogs were protecting their owners) couldnt grab the ears in self-defense. Now it's just a cosmetic issue.
