Leave yourself a LOT of extra time on your flight day. If you are flustered he'll pick up on it and be more likely to get anxious as the day goes on. Check all the airline requirements ahead of time, get any vaccinations that are close to expiration and the vet certificate if needed (usually need to be done within 30 days of travel) a few days before, bring along a favorite toy or chew in your carry-on.
You might want to do a trial run of any medication or herbal supplement you plan to use just to see how it affects him. Maybe during a car trip. It might take longer to take effect, might be too much or too little. Best to have an idea what to expect. Rescue Remedy is one classic herbal supplement some people use.

Thanks! His new carrier should arrive Monday along with some pee pads. It will give him lots of time to get use too it.
Our flight is super early like 5:50 am, so I plan on leaving here around 3am so we can be to the airport around 3:30 as it is a day before a major holiday.
Southwest says they don't need anything from the vet. I will still bring his rabies certificate though
