We had one of our dogs on it for the last two years of his life. He was fine, no side effects, but after awhile, it just wasn't doing him enough good to make it worthwhile.
We had a terrible time with Derramaxx--bad side effects with that stuff.
Yes my Boxer was on that after having kidney stones removed and it nearly killed her. We were giving it to her for 2 days but lucky for us I was only giving her half the dose !! my mistake but turned out to be a good one.
Do a search for it on the net and you will find loads I did there is even a group trying to ban it.
Our vet was useless I reported it to the FDA and the company that produces it, but really was a waste of time.
But in saying that a lot of people think it is a wonderful drug and has helped their pets.
One of my dogs was on it for chronic back pain, it made him throw up bile and we took him off and tried another drug...same effect. Those drugs usually give dogs ulcers but one has to weigh the pros and cons. I ended up putting my dog on Vioxx and he lived pain free with no side effects for 3 more years.
Our lab was on it for years with no side effects. She had bad arthritis and when aspirin therapy didn't work any longer it was Rimadyl that helped her to continue on. There are side effects with it as she had to have bloodtests every 6 months to see if it was affecting her liver and after a few years on it at 12 1/2 y/o her body gave out on her. But without Rimadyl she wouldn't have had that time.
We tried it for my elderly collie as he has arthritis but it made him really sick. Rimadyl made him throw up terribly right from the start so I discontinued it.
Thank you all. I am very grateful with all the information. After taken Rimadyl, My 3.5 yr old GSD licked her paws a lot and scratched her ears a lot. I called Vet and she instructed me to stop using it. But I don't like to see her in pain. I think I will stop until we see our vet again on Monday. If there is any dog out there that has similar allergic response, please let me know what your vet did to alleviate pain. Thanks again.
What is he in pain from??
2 of my dogs were on it but not daily. The owner gave the 14 yr old a pill every evening...and the 8 yr old 1 as a day after the grandson visit! Shelties..no side affects.
