We just moved to a new place and PC made a friend immediately with the neighbor's Lab, Oliver, who was just over a year old. They were really nice, but in the process of moving to a house with a fenced yard so that Oliver had room to run and play. While they were moving this weekend, Oliver had a seizure and died. I feel so badly for them and would love to do something, but not sure what to do for people that lost a pet so suddenly and unexpectedly. Any ideas?

Other than to offer condolences there is nothing you can do to ease their grief. It can help to talk about it.

A retired friend of mine lost his dog in an accident. I gave him a card with a gift certificate purchased from the humane society and suggested to him that when he thought the time was right while he couldn't replace the character he lost he could find a new friend.

How about a donation to a lab rescue, Best Friends, or the humane society in their dogs name?

Other then that if they need to vent be the person that gives then a chance to vent as support is about the greatest thing you can offer. I put Dash to sleep today and the support of people I know is the best gift they can give me... Jan

I like the above suggestions. My vet sends me a card signed by all the employees when one of mine gets PTS or dies and I appreciate it. As a friend, the donation in his name seems more personal somehow.

i agree with dashdog, although i'd consider making a donation to a local place - the local humane society over the national hsus, another local shelter, or as mentioned, a lab rescue. the local places just need the money more than the big national names. but whoever you decide to donate to, a donation in the dog's memory is a great idea.

and they do make pet condolence cards.

A nice card and a donation to a local shelter or rescue would be greatly appreciated. Our neighbor did that when our girl had to be PTS. It was very touching and comforting.

When I lost Mia a few months ago, I received probably close to 20 sympathy cards on the loss of your pet. At the time, I could barely look at them, but as time has worn on, I look them over time to time. It helps ease the pain and helps to know you have so many friends who understand what you are going through.

I agree with the above suggestions, and just wanted to express my condolences to PC's friend and to Dashdog.

Oh Jan.. I am so sorry.. I know your heart is breaking but you did what was best for Dash.

Great suggestions

If you have a pic of the 2 dogs playing maybe put it in a nice frame with a card or maybe you can find a plaque with the Rainbow Bridge poem
