German Shepherd. If any breed is intimidating looking, I would pick that one. Plus, they are very smart and easily trainable. They're also very protective of the owners. Or you could look into getting a great dane too. But with all pure bred dogs you have to find a good reputable breeder.
Not only are German Shepherds intimidating to people, insurance companies are scared of them too. If I got one my insurance company would cancel my policy. I was kinda of surprised by that.

I have a Dogue de Bodeaux (French mastiff), and I don't think I could ever have another breed - Brody's a little over a year old, but he has settled into our lifestyle beautifully.

There are a # of dogs that Ins. companies frown upon. The list keeps growing
check out state farm .... they don't do breed bans ..... and i was able to get a great deal on my auto and homeowner's insurance from them last year...... and no, i am NOT an insurance agent.......
I'm sure my homeowner's insurance would come down if they knew what Brody did for my home's security - that and my .40 cal.
