I have known several of these beautiful, amiable dogs.
I love their sweet nature and their lovely coats.
I believe there is Newfoundland way back in their original bloodline?
I have one and he is afraid of absolutely everything...
are yours like that?
Literally, if there is a new piece of furniture or even a bucket on the ground that isn't usually there...he is afraid to even go near it. I think he has issues.

One of my friend's flat-coats is a bit like that; she tries to encourage her, she praises her when she is brave.
I have a Flatcoat and he's not afraid of anything. He was very well socialized by his breeder, who handled all of the puppies every day from birth. He's the 3rd Flatcoat I've had and the other two were the same way. Always very confident dogs. Not that they're all that way, I've met some that were pretty skittish, usually they weren't well socialized.
MollyMe, congrats on having one and getting another -- I'd like to have another but probably not for a few years. They are just the best!!!
My flatcoat is like yours Sharon. We got him flown in from a California breeder. We found another breeder for the new girl that we will be getting, just about hour from our home in Pennsylvania.--what luck!!! Thinking about breeding them.
Cute pic, beautiful dogs! And if you're getting a puppy at the end of the year, you're a couple of years (at least) away from being able to breed them, so you'll have lots of time to figure it all out -- not sure if I'd want to own the female, LOL! We might breed mine one day, but only with his breeder's approval, along with health clearances and titles in at least two venues. We're halfway to his CH and pursuing Obedience and Rally, have his Rally Novice already. Hope to get a minimum of a Junior Hunter. These are some very versatile dogs, and most breeders want to keep it that way. Good luck!!
Any dog that acts scared or shy should have thier eyes examaned bya doggie eye doctor.
