The unemployment rate in the United States just ticked down to 3.5%.

Most people living today weren’t even born when it was this low the last time.

This idea is distorted since much of our population doesn't work, kids and seniors, and many of proper age are no longer looking for work.

(use max or 1948) https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/EMRATIO

Nearly all of that is explained by the fact that our population is older. Further, LFPR has been fairly stable over the last several years.

There's no way around it the overall employment picture while not perfect is quite good right now.

There is considerable unfilled demand. Companies are having to chill growth because they cannot get enough people to perform and manage the necessary work.

So, while the employment picture maybe good for workers or potential workers, it is bad for companies.

That's a good point.

No question, speaking in broad terms, we have a labor force, supply, that is generally underprepared/undereducated relative to demand.

Which means that people need to get off their lazy asses and step up their game to fill all those jobs that are just waiting for them.

At some point, it would behoove employers to train people.

If you've had unfilled vacancies for a long time, there is likely something wrong with pay, company reputation, etc. The remaining labor force may be largely unskilled, but if you can't attract qualified people who are already employed and won't train the unemployed or unskilled, what do you do?
