I'm all for making stuff in America, but come on people.
The textile, garment, & apparel industry has ALWAYS chased tbe lowest cost labor. China has been getting too expensive for them for a while now, so they moved to countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Egypt, etc... It's not worth $15 an hour to pay a textile worker, but it's not even worth $5 an hour to pay Mexican or Chinese workers.
Nike recently pledged $40 million to "black social causes" but my question was, why couldn't they just take that money and build a factory in a majority black city like Newark, Detroit, or Baltimore? Obviously $40 million would build a pretty small factory but they could make specialty shoes there, perhaps custom made shoes for NBA players and such.
they should make "special" shoes for NBA players, that don't pay for those shoes, so that the folks that want to purchase the LeBron 16 can get that model, but made in China?
It's like ... Zion coming out to say "Nike, I'm grateful for your $10MM a year, but you saw how those cheap Chinese sneakers that Coach K gets paid $10MM a year for Duke basketball to wear did for me. I almost lost my career. So spend $100MM a year to have them made right in the USA."

Because the $40 million is a one time charge. It’s a marketing play.
Building a plant is an ongoing expense and has risks for decades and cost far beyond the $40 million. That ain’t happening. There’s also a selection process to make sure an area actually has the right talent. You don’t just build a plant because people want “jobs”.
If I can buy a Lucchese alligator belt made in Texas for 300$ this country can make some sneakers under 200 bucks. Don't be absurd. The greedy corporate slobs at the top are feeding too much on cheap overseas labor.
They are and they benefit that the rest of America is forced into low paying jobs that cannot afford Made in America items.
One visit to Nike's website will show you image after image of athletic black models wearing their shoes. But with unemployment so high and so few blacks able to afford their expensive shoes that are all made in China and Vietnam how about making Nikes in the USA again? At least one out of three black males has one pair of Jordans. Whites and latinos too! I am on the streets of Brooklyn and Queens daily. Think how much cooler if they were made here by our own people that would put the money right back into our community's. Is corporate Nike too greedy? Do they just want to outsource everything to poor corners of Asia where they can take advantage of cheap labor? How about all the disenfranchised, unemployed people here at home?
Because Black Americans or any other Americans don't want to work for $.25 an hour under horrible working conditions.
You are looking at a $2,000 pair of tennis Shoes -made in america
Just like a CHEAPLY manufactured in the USA Cadillac that sells for over $60,000 Dolores. with warning Lights coming on just days after you take it home.
