What do you make of this..

I ordered an electric bicycle back in early October and just got this email yesterday from the manufacture regarding a delay in getting my bike (likely wont get it until Feb)

Yours is one of the many (manufactures name) ebikes that are fully built but have unfortunately been delayed in transit to the U.S. The increase in demand for alternative transportation has impacted us and many other companies, resulting in the volume of products being shipped exceeding both the number of required shipping containers and the required space on shipping vessels at the origin port.
These bikes are manufactured in China and apparently so much stuff is being shipped out that they cant find room on normal shipping methods.. Is this only a problem with electric bikes or a general problem?

Is this a reflection on the trade imbalance with China? https://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/balance/c5700.html

From here https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries The US had over 183 thousand new Covid cases yesterday. China says they had 8.

It is happening to small buyers as well,5 kg-50 kg,RATES has gone up and delivery takes longer.
I read that airlines are now shipping live animals in large crates to China, after the Africa Swine flu, many Chinese farmers have to restock ,they are buying pigs and corn and soy beans .
Mexico is also a problem, with customs delay

One of the issues in backlog is demand for things like outdoor sporting equipment but also ocean traffic is a lot higher because this year the number of commercials flights freely traveling all over the world was at or near zero and is still down significantly. Commercial airlines would typically move a lot of freight for UPS/FedEx and a lot of other carriers

I've bought small electrical parts from China and one of the games they used to play is they trucked the parts from Shenzen to Hong Kong, then shipped by air carrier from there. This avoided Trump's 25% tariff, which did not apply to Hong Kong. Last I knew Hong Kong's special status was revoked and that ended that game.

The people you were buying from were breaking the law. Simply trucking goods doesn’t avoid the tariffs, you’d have to falsify country of origin records

The fall is THE worst time to buy products from China. Manufacturers are very busy getting orders out the door before the Chinese New Years Holiday which usually starts in January (When workers start to migrate home). The entire country basically shuts down for one month end of January to end of February. Add in Covid and you can understand why China orders will not get out until the spring if they were placed this fall.

I usually like buying cheapo stuff from China, saving some decent bucks.

But yeah, weird things going on now. I checked on buying an item from China........the estimated delivery date was from December 9th to January 20th. NOPE, saving 5 bucks is not worth it.
