Debt should be used for emergency situations. Like if a war broke out or god forbid, a pandemic. It should be paid down during good economic times. Unfortunately, many politicians see it as a way to buy votes by cutting taxes and spending more. If the nation had little or no debt when the pandemic broke out we could have guaranteed every person $1000 a month until the pandemic was over. Instead, people had to worry whether a one time 600 bucks would get passed as politicians spend weeks arguing over it. Fewer individuals would have skipped out on paying rent as they wouldn't have to worry about losing income.

But this is really what people voted for. Bush borrowed more money for tax cuts to the rich than for the Iraq war. As long as people got their $50 tax cut they voted for this guy to give billions to the super rich. Same for Trump.

That's probably we get along pretty well on these boards Mathjak because I'm the same way when it comes to politicians...

As far as I know - Obama is still the all time king of debt runup, although Trump also ran up a lot of debt but he only had 4 years to do it versus Obama's 8...

Both parties own this disaster.
But when is it really going to matter? I have no idea.

Not by a comparison by 4 year term which is the only fair way to compare 8 years to 4 years
