My friend needed a website for his business. First he was looking for programmers here, in the USA. He got estimates between $64K-130K from 5 companies, and website would be delivered in 2 months. That was out of the range he could pay. He found a company in India. Dedicated team of programmers delivered product in 3 weeks and it cost him $6K.

So, it is not like companies don't want to give business to americans. It is just outrageous rates what drives business out of here. Same about medicine. My friend got estimate $28K here and got same job done for $3K offshore. I had estimate from dentist $5K, but I had it done overseas for $600... in a very nice office equiped with new equipment.

And you know what-it's not my business that somebody takes tens or even hundreds of thousands in student loans.

HAHA! I wonder if the OP ever thought he'd be called a traitor for stating a business! The OP should clearly stop his business and start working a 9-5 job making peanuts.

This thread has just turned into a bunch of ridiculous "They took our jerbs" rants.

I've been involved in this sort of work before and I find that many US firms completely rip people off. They use the fact that the vast majority of people are almost completely ignorant of how the internet works and exactly what work is involved. I've seen numerous cases of people getting charged 2~3 thousand for what amounted to 1 days of work of one employee.

What kind of business is it? Not sure if this is a dumb question but did he look into web hosting?

Hosting a web site is not designing and building one.. Hosting can run as little as $20 a month to I'd guess a couple of hundred a month.. The more the site takes up on the hosting server the more it cost per month.

Every time one of US walks into wal mart or a store like them and buy an item....WE are outsourcing overseas... Hire an illegal to cut your grass or work around your house...YOU are outsourcing.

Buy that chicken from companies use illegals to kill and gut them ...WE are outsourcing...

But for some reason a LOT of Americans don't seem to have a problem with that kind of outsourcing. Added:
and matter of fact most of them are proud of it...you can read about it on the shopping thread..

Matter of fact go over the the Illegal Immigration thread and you will find plenty of Americans that come right out and support the illegal part of the outsourcing..

I guess it's okay to outsource as long as it's not MY job being outsourced...

Huh? You only need one programmer per site? Yeah, for small websites. You think Amazon has one programmer?

I know that, a lot of web hosting companies will design a website for you or the hosting company will provide the user with tools to design a website yourself including shopping carts, blogs, SSL certificates.

Does it need a high level programming language?

What kind of business is this?
