Well UM is a small school with ehh..."moderately strong" academics; it has a high profile, but ultimately, a lot of accepted applicants do not enroll there (check out this page:

In my own humble opinion, I wouldn't go to UM as an undergraduate because it's too expensive in comparison to the quality of the programs;
unless you have a nice scholarship package. The exceptions to this would be for the music and marine science. Graduate school is another story -- because UM does have some very strong programs in medicine, business, and in a lesser degree law.
