So, what happens when you apply early action and you get deferred?

Do I still have a chance?

This is for U of Miami

Make sure you keep up your grades and send in your fall semester grades. Your application will be re-reviewed during regular decision time, so you do have a chance. Anything you might have done over first semester (awards, new test scores, etc) should also be reported to admissions.

Also make sure you do have a few other schools that you have applied to just in case.

Thanks. Yes, I did apply and I got into the other ones, so this one threw me for a loop. The Admission Committee Co-Chairperson that I spoke with on the phone said to send my new grades (I have a 4.75 at this time) and he sounded positive, but still....

Well UM is a small school with ehh..."moderately strong" academics; it has a high profile, but ultimately, a lot of accepted applicants do not enroll there (check out this page: University of Miami Facts, Stats and Admissions Information (http://education.yahoo.com/college/facts/9262.html - broken link) ).

In my own humble opinion, I wouldn't go to UM as an undergraduate because it's too expensive in comparison to the quality of the programs; unless you have a nice scholarship package. The exceptions to this would be for the music and marine science. Graduate school is another story -- because UM does have some very strong programs in medicine, business, and in a lesser degree law.
