Learning Farsi for native speakers of English (literacy, exam, study)

I am considering studying Farsi and wanted to hear from those of you who have attempted to learn the language.

How long did it take you to you reach functional literacy and spoken fluency?

What was particularly challenging for you?

If you have learned other languages, what were they? How did you compare the learning of that langyage with Farsi?

What are online resources that you found particularly helpful?

My goals would be a decent quality of functional literacy and spoken fluency, something like passing the C1 exam in French or German.
