Why did/do I pass out during a boring lecture?

The physiological reasons please

Is it a disorder?

I know it is not because of lack of sleep because I feel fine when I am out of class

I never spoke to him about it, but my cousin is a doctor and he says it is because my generation grew up watching to much TV, and it hindered my tolerance for anything boring, thus why I cannot pay attention to a boring teacher and I doze off

Now it is funny because I can feel the onset of the sleep coming, and have to stop it, but it just keeps coming back and back, and the class just becomes pointless because I have to focus myself to just stay awake and therefore am unable to pay attention

This is something that has afflicted me since middle school

In elementary school I would just daydream in school, but when I got older I realized I should start paying more attention, so I forced myself to stop daydreaming, but the consequence was I had trouble staying awake when it was a really boring teacher

Now I can do other boring activities and not pass out, so this seems only to happen in class when having to listen to a boring talker

I am not lazy or anything, I got good grades despite this, but always had to struggle and find other means, and I did graduate from a good college, where I had the same issue

another funny note, at my previous employment, we would have department meetings and the boss just bored the heck out of me, and I would have to try very hard to stay awake, my eye lids would close and I would have to force them open and try to not look conspicuous

Some people pop pills, drink red bulls, etc to stay awake during boring classes

I know when I get bored and ready to fall asleep as soon as I drink a red bull I am alert again

I think it's pretty common to fall asleep when you are bored. How many people sleep through an hour church service? As to how to stay awake, I think drinking coffee and energy drinks (as nitokenshi mentions) are the most common things to do. Doodling helps too.

I go into a trance and create a more reasonable lecture than the boss. Great fun but it does confuse reality.

How much sleep are you getting at night? I had a friend who would always doze off in class, but he got maybe 4 hours of sleep at night and made up the other 4 hours through naps and sleeping in class. You need to get a full 8 hours to be fully awake...if you only get 4-6 you'll be tired all day and have to fight very hard to stay awake in class. As others mentioned, if it continues to be a problem even though you are getting enough sleep, try drinking coffee or something.
