People do need time and "professional assistance" to get over their grief. The public school system does not offer that nor can it ever offer the individualized attention a person needs in time of grief due to the large amount of students attending public schools. Children go to school on a regular basis with TONS of baggage because their parents don't get them the help they need. Half the parents out here are drug addicts, alcoholics, dead beat parents, no-shows, have no education, no jobs, don't want to pay child support: THEY ARE A TRAIN WRECK!!!!!!! Some parents don't even care how or when their kids get to school and could care less what the child is dealing with BEFORE they get there. A child can not learn in an emotional state. Many children are so angry and defensive, always ready to fight BECAUSE parents (not all-some) don't give a damn! We live in a society where some parents feel the schools and community must raise their children because they have some sort of entitlement. This must stop! Every parent must be held personally accountable for his/her childrens' needs (emotional, educational, financial etc.) ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!

I think half is an exaggeration, but I agree with some of your points.

I'd be terrified if some Texas districts adopted this policy. We've taken zero tolerance to new extremes down here. I shudder to think what the consequences would be for touching in some TX schools.
I am so glad it is done. The school system and concerned parents have the final word. So, the only thing left to do is wish all the parents with troubled children "Good Luck". Actually, after all is said and done these parents will need a miracle. They know who they are and they will finally need to own up to their childrens' actions. It is times like these I am proud to say good has finally prevailed. Call it whatever you wish but when the parents of an unruly child are called to the school, dragged into court and made to pay for not getting a troubled child the help they need, all the other parents will be vindicated I wish all the parents with troubled children the best of luck and foresight to get a good lawyer....

Remember the preschooler in Waco, Tx. that was suspended for hugging his teacher's aide? That school does have a policy against "inappropriate physical contact". That was definitely an extreme case.

That is crazy for a pre-K student. And yes I am familiar with this story. But I was actually referring to some of the other penalties TX districts use for relatively minor ofenses.
TX has an elaborate system of reform schools that every single district is required to operate. There are mandatory offenses designated by the state legislature for which placement in a reform school (DAEP) is required. Districts, however, can choose to add any additional offense they wish. Some have added dress code violations and tardies.
Until 2007, TX also had a law criminalizing any school discipline violation. Police could issue citations to students for violating regular school rules and students/parents were responsible for paying fines. Kids got criminal records for this stuff. Some of the more extreme examples I'm aware of are an 8 year old girl who was given a ticket for chewing gum in class and a high schooler who was given a ticket for going to the school parking lot to get a book from her car in between classes.
Luckily, that law was taken off the books in 2007. But the reform schools remain. Kids who end up these schools are FAR more likely to drop out or become involved in the criminal or juvenile justice system. The schools are needed for the worst kids absolutely. But the poster who loves the no touching policy so much suggested that kids be placed in reform schools for touching each other....and that to me is beyond crazy.

This particular mentality is freaky. Almost like a prison camp with chains and clubs. Glad you don't live around me, we'd have words often and I would give your kids the evil eye every day.
It just adds to the long, long list of what kids are not allowed to do. Micro-management is tightening kids lives until one day they will be like zombies. Seriously, kids aren't allowed to learn things on their own any more at school. All they do is follow instruction, direction, and rules. Every facet of the schooling is dictated to them from the adults around them; how they walk, how fast/slow they walk, how they talk, what they say, who to say it to, how they act, when to do things, how to do things, why they do things, don't touch, don't talk, don't think for yourself, don't act like that, don't run, don't play, sit up, stand up, sit down, JEEZ-O-PETE !!!
Hey, and I thought school was supposed to be preparing kids for the "real world." That's what I'm often told. I'm sure not looking forward to the "real world" that my children's agemates are being prepared for... a world of no one touching anyone else, of jumping at the direction of one person in authority, of being micromanaged, of not being allowed to think outside the box.
I hope you wouldn't really give children the "evil eye" every day, just because you didn't agree with their parent.
