WNYW: A teacher at the Madison Park Elementary School in Old Bridge, N.J., told a 3rd grader that the Bible was not appropriate reading material for quiet time, and ordered the girl to put the book away, according to the girl's parents.

I suppose there are a number of people who feel that one can learn very little, if anything at all, from The Bible.

I suppose I would have to agree with them.

And I suppose that you would be wrong. There is something to learn from most books. You have to have an open mind.

You know what an open mind is, don't you? A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Ok, so the teacher made a mistake. It should have been handled easily at the school level. How did this even get so big in the news? I wonder if the parent went to the media. Seems like she wants the attention and is making a mountain out of a molehill.

Judging my intellect and ability so harshly according to two sentences summing up only one of my hundreds of personal opinions while telling me to keep an open mind is a bit pretentious, don't you think?

I only said that I don't think The Bible contains any knowledge worth knowing, and based on that, the teacher in question probably feels the same way.

Neither did I judge your intellect or ability, nor was it harsh. But, reread your comments, they came across as quite pompous and cocksure.

People who say that Book XXX has nothing of value are anything but open minded. If the book were, say, "Johnny Has Two Daddies, but No Mommy", there would be outrage from the ACLU and its supporters.

Granting, for the sake of the discussion, that the teacher actually said that - which I have neither seen nor heard evidence of - as it was 'free reading' time, I sincerely doubt that the teacher's opinion of the knowledge to be gleaned or even the literary merit of the Bible was a factor.
