ATLANTA (AP) — A failing Savannah high school is firing its entire staff in an effort to avoid further sanctions from the state and to make the school eligible for up to $6 million in federal money, officials said Thursday.

I attended Savannah High School in Savannah, GA which I don't think is any better than Beach High School. However, I don't think it is totally the fault of the faculty and staff. Much of the problem IMO starts at home. Many of the students that I attended school with were uninterested in school, were prone to illegal and criminal activities, violence, among other things such as teenage pregnancy. A teacher simply can not turn a classroom full of thugs and baby mamas into grade A students with near perfect attendance. Anyways, but the time a student has become a teenager / young adult, they usually have an ego, personality and behavior that you would be hard pressed to change unless the student wants to change themselves.

I lived in Savannah for a while and the school situation there is beyond dismal. I would have to say it is the worst district in the entire nation.

The district would hire a superintendent under a multi-year contract, fire him after a year hiring another then firing him after a year to hire another. In the meantime they continue paying the salaries of the fired superintendents and a few years back they had three former superintendents collecting full salaries.

Hey, whats wrong with $400,000 a year going to three fired non-working superintendents? Obviously the district can afford it by firing 15 teachers.
