Maybe now that the new baseball stadium and triple AAA baseball team along with the reintroduction of the vintage electric street cars are coming;not to mention downtown revitalization and new business growth.
It could be possible to bring back the alligators to San Jancinto Plaza since there are now ways and means to
accommodate them in a better environment with temperature control pools and security; This should be a good draw for our downtown as another attraction.

Put a barrier around the pool to stop people intending animal cruelty or wanting to kill themselves or somebody else (or trying to throw in junk food, raw meat, people's dogs and cats, trash or other foreign objects).

Default Slim chance

Too many activists these days to let it happen. It will be "cruel" to let alligators live in hot sun... you know, like the hundreds of thousands do here in South-East Texas!

I don't know about hot sun, but I figure they'd have something to say about the possibility of people throwing stuff into the alligators' pool, like I mentioned above. I believe that's basically the reason the alligators were moved out of the park in the first place--for their own safety.

"In March 1953, Oscar was found dead at the bottom of the pond, the result of internal injuries after vandals removed him and threw him back into the pond when police arrived. The alligators were finally moved to the El Paso Zoo in 1965 after two were stoned to death and another had a spike driven through its left eye. The alligators were briefly returned to the plaza in 1972 only to be removed once again in 1974 at a cause of vandals." San Jacinto Plaza - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I didn't know about that part. Yeah, something would have to be done to keep the alligators safe before they could be returned to the plaza (plus the possibility of lawsuits if somebody got into the pool and was attacked).

In the 50's, our family always referred to the Plaza as "Alligator Park." Only years later did I discover that was not the actual name. The alligators were a great attraction for us kids, but then as now a handful of losers ruined things for everyone else.

Back in the 50's every time my grandmother would send our nanny to go do errands in downtown, I use to hide in the cotton fields of our property in fear of having to companion her;but then my grandma would offer me the benefit of getting to see the alligators in the Plaza and that would change my mind pretty quickly.
