Hi! I might be a new resident in the west side of the town! I am thinking of purchasing a home in 79911, which belong to Canutillo ISD. What is school like? Some of the residents there say avoid Canutillo ISD, but homes are much nicer in 79911 in our price range. Some are telling me Canutillo ISD's demographic is changing that schools are getting better. I have to decide pretty soon.

Shall I go to an older home in 79912 and go to EPISD? or
Shall I go to brand new home in 79911 and go to Canutillo ISD?

Please help!

Thank you!

79911 is very quiet side of Helen of Troy. I recommend it. Your kids might like Franklin better however...... The price difference reflects just that, that most people prefer Franklin.

Canutillo had an incredible run in football this year. That may have clout with your kids, especially if they play football. Good luck! I hope you like El Paso!

Great sporting events, lots of Mountain Biking Trails! Take advantage.

Were you looking at the newly built homes along the north side of 375 and east of I-10?

The wife and I took a tour of some houses there on Sunday. They're very nice, they have a few different floor plans. Most of the neighborhood is vacant. The realtor drove by and told me that it's Canutillo. I don't know much about Canutillo except that the Outlet Mall and Maraccas is there. He did say the property tax is just under 3%

The houses we looked at were in the $180-191k range. He did mention there is a home owners association there.

I love riding on the west side of town. There is the running/biking trail going north on Resler, it breaks off east and west at Transmountain. The western edge ends at I-10 and the eastern edge ends at the Tom Mays entrance. However, that doesn't mean one can't keep riding up Transmountain. I've rode it before and it's a great ride.

Canutillo is improving. I was teaching at Kohlberg and Tippin and when some people that bought houses north of those schools thought they were in the EPISD. They later found out that was not the case. However, now, things are much better in CISD. Other posters have made good comments about the sports. I am not sure about fine arts other than band. Certainly worth looking into .

We've looked last some houses in the 79911 area as well. My wife likes the houses and we've both agreed on a few that we both like. Plus the prices are smaller (but so are the plots of land!)

My biggest reservations have been the school district and being such a young neighborhood. Lots of new houses going up in the area, not sure what the resale value would be if we needed to sell.
